Public Records Request
The Records Department is open Monday thru Thursday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Public Records

You are strongly encouraged to call the Records department (954-390-2150) for all requests prior to visiting the records department. Calling ahead will speed up the research process when looking for your report and also let you know if the report is ready and available to be picked up. In addition, some records may be picked up after hours upon special arrangement with the records department personnel.

Background Checks
  • A local background check for residents or incidents which occurred in the City of Wilton Manors can be requested.
  • Countywide background checks are available at 2601 W. Broward Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale, FL: 954-831-8700.
  • Full background checks for the State of Florida are available through the FDLE: 850-410-8109
  • A Level II background check is available through the Federal Bureau of Investigations: 304-625-3878

   

FSS# 119.105 Protection of victims of crimes or accidents.  Police reports are public records except as otherwise made exempt or confidential..  Every person is allowed to examine nonexempt or nonconfidential police reports.  A person who comes into possession of exempt or confidential information contained in police reports may not use that information for any commercial solicitation of the victims or relatives of the victims of the reported crimes or accidents and may not knowingly disclose such information to any third party for the purpose of such solicitation during the period of time that the information remains exempt or confidential….  Violation is a three degree felony.

Due to a change in Florida State Statute, be prepared to present identification when picking up a copy of an accident report.  If you are not an authorized party we can not release the complete report to you for 60 days. If you are a party involved in the crash, or their legal representative, or their insurance agent, or person under contract with insurers to pick up and provide claims or underwriting information, or prosecutorial authorities, or most newspaper, radio and TV stations you qualify for release of a complete copy but you must be able to present legitimate credentials or ID that demonstrates your qualifications to receive the report.

FSS# 316.066 (amended 6/5/01): Creates a public records exemption for the name, home or employment address, home or employment telephone number, or other personal information (license tag number, vin number, etc.) concerning those people involved in auto accidents and contained in accident reports for sixty days. Allows access by certain, specified parties, including print and broadcast journalists, during that sixty day period. Stipulates that any government employee in possession of such information who knowingly discloses it to a person not entitled to access is guilty of a third degree felony, and that any person who, knowing he or she is not entitled to obtain the confidential information, obtains or attempts to obtain such information is also guilty of a third degree felony.     

PLEASE NOTE THAT IN ACCORDANCE WITH CHAPTER 119.07 (B) OF THE FLORIDA STATE STATUTES, IF THE NATURE OR VOLUME OF THE PUBLIC RECORDS REQUESTED TO BE INSPECTED, EXAMINED, OR COPIED IS SUCH AS TO REQUIRE EXTENSIVE USE OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY RESOURCES OR EXTENSIVE CLERICAL OR SUPERVISORY ASSISTANCE BY PERSONNEL IN THE POLICE DEPARTMENT, THERE WILL BE A CHARGE OF $.15 PER COPY($.20 per double-sided) FOR THE RECORDS REQUESTED PLUS THE HOURLY RATE OF THE CLERICAL OR SUPERVISORY PERSONNEL WHO PERFORMED THE RESEARCH AND COPIED SAID RECORDS.
