Economic Development Task Force

The City Commission established the Wilton Manors Economic Development Task Force to aid in creation of a marketing strategy for the City, identify parcels or tracts of land for future development and recommend programs, incentives and ordinances to encourage economic development.

The Task Force members represent the following categories:

• One Business Owner representing retail and/or general business.
• One Business Owner representing entertainment and/or restaurant business.
• One Commercial Property Owner with ownership of commercial property in the City of Wilton Manors.
• Six residents of the City with expertise in Real Estate, Development and/or Marketing.

The first meeting was held on January 11, 2012 and the Task Force meets on the 3rd Wednesday of every month at 5:30. Meetings are open to the public and the Task Force welcomes feedback and participation.

The goals and objectives for economic development growth in the City as established by the Task Force are as follows:

• Encourage daytime and pedestrian traffic
• Hotel development / lodging
• Public / Private Partnership on City Hall site
• Parking solution
• Create an economic base
• Attract other developers and industries
• LGBT vacation destination
• Keep residential stable and affordable
• Existing business retention
• Keep central core accessible to all
• LGBT Senior and/or affordable housing
• Look at Economic Viability of all corridors

The Task Force has brought forward the following recommendations to the City Commission:

• Advertisement for City in the Rainbow Business Coalition FabGuide and Fun Maps.
Temporary sign and banner relief for all businesses in the City through December 31, 2012
• Recommended the Planning and Zoning Board review a relief for retail parking in Urban Mixed Use Districts
• Recommended approval of the Platinum Cities ordinance by the City Commission • Assisted in crafting the proposed Request for Proposals for a Public Private Partnership on City owned land within the Wilton Drive Arts and Entertainment District.

The Task Force is currently working and/or reviewing the following projects:

• Wilton Manors Development Alliance Gateway Project including banner program, future Iberia Triangle acquisition and general business attraction
• Remote parking with shuttle service and/or a Trolley service from Fort Lauderdale resorts
• Outreach to neighborhood associations
• Cluster Valet program
• Creation of a “Photo Spot” / “Welcome to Wilton Manors” sign
• Website for travelers
• Expand Bed and Breakfast locations/reach out to Superior and Small Lodgings
• Gateway signs
• Create a Business Welcome package
