Mickel Field Re-purposing
The City of Wilton Manors Leisure Services Department will be leading a follow up meeting of the community effort to ensure the most efficient use of Mickel Field. The next meeting will be on Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at Hagen Park beginning at 6:30 PM. During our meeting on Wednesday, July 24, 2013, we discussed many specific ideas for improving the functionality of the park. The Site Master Plan has been revised including ideas and input for the most appropriate amenities that would establish new recreational opportunities that best utilize Mickel Field/Park.

The key areas the focus group identified as priorities to re-purpose Mickel Park included developing a multi-use fitness trail around the perimeter of the park, estate style fencing along Powerline Road, permit dogs to use the trail as long as they are on a leash (policy defined by the City), a pavilion and Amphitheatre, festival/special events area, courtyard connecting to the existing building, softball/baseball field, playground, interactive fountain, racquetball, volleyball, Bocce ball/Petanque and added shade trees with more natural landscaping.

Additionally, the City adopted a parks system master plan in 2010 to use as a guide to ensure city parks meet the needs of the City residents. The parks system master plan also supports re-purposing Mickel Field and adding appropriate park and recreational amenities. The benefits of re-purposing Mickel Park are not only a value to the participants but will also lead the renaissance toward improving Powerline Road. Providing adequate parks and recreation programs, amenities and services also contribute to attracting and retaining new businesses and community partners to the City.  Click here to see the proposed site plan.

A survey is also being conducted to gather information regarding re-purposing Mickel Field.  To provide your feedback please take the short survey at the following link.  Mickel Field / Park Re-purposing Survey
