"Local Alert" Facebook System

Local Alert

The City of Wilton Manors has been selected to participate in the pilot "Local Alert" system on Facebook. If you see a post tagged "Local Alert," know that it is time sensitive. When a post is tagged with a local alert, it: 1. Allows page followers to see the "local alert" indicator on that post in their news feed 2. Causes that post to appear on Today In, a new place on Facebook for local news and community information 3. Sends a notification to the CIty’s page followers living in the affected area, as well as to people who have opted in to receive regular local updates from Today In. Possible scenarios that may qualify for "Local Alert" post status include: active shooter, road closure, traffic alert, storm warning, flash flood warning, change / suspension in service (e.g., trains, garbage pickup, etc.), blackout, missing person case, criminal activity. The City of Wilton Manors is committed to piloting this program and will continue to look for new ways to keep our Island City community updated on important public safety-related events and information. Thank you for your continued support and dedication to helping ensure Wilton Manors remains a safe community for all to enjoy.
