Message From the Mayor: Brightline

We want to remind everyone that the Brightline passenger trains are expected to begin service from Fort Lauderdale to West Palm Beach this week.  This will, bring up to 16 trains per day through Wilton Manors.  These high-speed trains consist of two engines and four passenger cars.  You may have seen the test runs of the brightly-colored trains during the last few days. With only 6 cars, the trains will pass quickly, but they need to sound their horns when they cross intersections until quiet zones are completed.

The Broward County Metropolitan Planning Organization is coordinating quiet zones along the FEC corridor to reduce sound impact.  Upgraded traffic signal equipment on NE 26 Street was recently installed as part of the safety measures needed to implement the quiet zone.  The quiet zone is expected to be finished in the next few months, after which, the trains will minimize the use of loud horns.  In the meantime, the trains will still need to use the sound horns to ensure the highest degree of safety.
