Census 2020

We need you --- to complete the 2020 Decennial Census!

During the first three weeks of March 2020, you will receive a postcard from the US Census Bureau.  The postcard will have a unique household identifier that will allow you to respond to the census via the internet or telephone.  Federal law requires that the personal information you submit is kept confidential and secure.

A complete and accurate count is critical for Wilton Manors because the results of the 2020 Census will affect how much funding we receive from federal programs over the next decade.  Every year, billions of dollars in federal funding go to hospitals, fire departments, schools, roads, and other resources based on census data. For this reason, responding to the census is a civic duty that is required by law. The US Constitution, Article 1, Section 2, mandates that the country conduct a count of its population once every 10 years. The 2020 Census will mark the 24th time that the country has counted its population since 1790.

The results of the census also determine the number of seats each state will have in the U.S. House of Representatives, and they are used to draw congressional and state legislative districts.  Three congressional seats were gained in Florida after the last census, and that translates into empowerment.

Children, immigrants and other at-risk communities are always in danger of being undercounted, so pass the word along to your friends and neighbors.  Completing the Census survey is safe – and it is vitally important for you and your community!

If you need help responding to the Census or know someone who might, the City has trained volunteers to assist.  Call 954-390-2120 for more information.
